Being a Christian is not just about going to church on Sunday. It’s about living our lives with God in the centre 24/7. That’s not easy but it really helps when we have the support of others to share in our highs and lows and encourage us in our life journeys. We have many different groups that meet during the week to build community and to encourage one another.
You can go to as many different groups as you’d like and we encourage everyone to sign-up and commit to one sermon-based ‘Life Group’ or course each term. Life groups run for 10-12 weeks and follow the teaching from the Sunday morning. Here you can ask the tough questions, dig deeper into the latest sermon, find mutual support in one another and meet with God as you study the Bible together. Life Groups really are the heartbeat of our church where the practical aspects of our faith are worked out and where people are loved, cared for and supported.
We have many groups meeting across the city. Each group has their own flavour – literally, as most share a meal together each time they meet!
Our groups run in 3 terms each year, with sign up periods in January, April, and September.
Church on Sunday is a great opportunity to gather as a large group, and a powerful experience - but I have found the smaller groups mid-week have provided more opportunity to connect and 'do life' together. The support and friendship provided in the smaller setting encourages me through the week.
When I first came to the church I hardly knew anyone as I was new to Portsmouth. Whilst I really enjoyed the Sunday service, I was keen to get know people and not be a ‘stranger’. It was through joining a midweek small group that I very quickly made some good friends who encouraged me in my faith and also helped me make the most of living in such a great place! If you’re new to ChristCentral Church I’d encourage you to make sure you join a small group.
I love life group; it brings together different people, who you possibly might not have associated with. You can discuss the talks on Sundays & the bible, in a smaller, more personable setting.
