We love our students here at Christ Central and they are such an integral part of our church family.

If you’re a new student to us, then hello! You are so welcome here! If you’re wondering what it would be like for you to be a student here, look no further

Sunday Mornings

On Sundays, you’ll find the students meeting as part of our PO1 congregation and getting stuck in. From leading worship, to leading Kids Work, being a part of the set-up and hospitality teams, you can find students involved and serving in all aspects of our morning together. Whilst we love to serve you, and pour into you during your time in Portsmouth, we also love to see you grow in your God-given gifts and are so blessed by the way our students serve us.

You can always find a group of students chatting together after the service or a group mingling and meeting new members of our church family. With a not-so spontaneous (as they’ve started doing it almost weekly!) pub lunch afterwards, there’s plenty of opportunities to meet other students and church family.

Mid Week Groups

Our groups are at the core of what we do here at Christ Central, meeting together, encouraging each other and opening God’s word together, whether that’s through a Bible study or doing evangelistic courses. We have a specific student-based life group who meet together on Tuesdays at 7:30pm, who pray together, socialise, eat waffles and open God’s word. In the second half of the term, you can normally find them helping to run and inviting friends to whatever evangelistic course is happening that term (Alpha, Christianity Explored etc).
But if you’re looking to meet a great cross-section of our church family, many of our students choose to join groups with all-age members in, so there’s an opportunity for whatever you’re looking for. We also have activity-based groups who meet less frequently that you can join to meet others.

Disciple-A-Student is another opportunity we have to grow our students and see them really get to grips with the Bible. Students get the opportunity to be paired up with a more mature church family member and open the Bible with them, whilst doing life with them. D-A-S allows you to grow in your faith and also get to know more members of the church family! What more could you want!

There’s More

We have lots of opportunities throughout the year to get together and grow, whilst also having lots of fun! From socials to Commission Festival in the summer and their 20s-30s event, from Feed-A-Student where you get to go over and have a home-cooked meal at a church family’s house to Love Portsea, our community outreach project where we go out and do gardening in the local community, there are so many opportunities in Christ Central to get stuck in as a student.

Dan Knapp and Olivia Gate lead our students and would love to hear from you! After becoming a Christian through an Alpha course at uni, Dan believes that your time as a student is one of the most influential in your faith journey. Based at our Shore Avenue congregation with his wife Charis and kids, Dan helps to lead our student ministry.

Olivia moved to Portsmouth in 2020 fresh out of uni to work alongside the University of Portsmouth Christian Union before joining the staff team here to look after our students. She is passionate about seeing students coming to know Jesus for themselves and making the most of the opportunities they have whilst at university. Olivia came on staff at the church in 2021 to take on student pastoral and discipleship leadership and she now continues to do this as part of her role as Ministry Coordinator for the church.
